The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at VCU and the Richmond Fire Department have partnered to support the Fireman’s Challenge.  The Fireman’s Challenge is a philanthropic effort created to benefit and raise awareness for the Evans-Haynes Burn Center at the VCU Medical Center.

Founded in 1947, the Evans-Haynes Burn Center is the oldest civilian burn facility in the Unites States. The center serves as the regional resource for the care of acute burns and reconstructive needs of adult and pediatric burn survivors, and provides care for those injured from fire, chemical, electrical burns and skin loss injuries and diseases.

The Evans-Haynes Burn Center is dedicated to providing excellent interdisciplinary, holistic care for patients and their families across the lifespan, from point of injury until optimal restoration of function.  The Evans-Haynes Burn Center serves as the regional resource for the care of acute burn and reconstructive needs of burn survivors. With a 16-bed unit that treats 250-300 patients per year including pediatric and adult burn patients, the Burn Unit also provides education to EMT’s, special government forces and rural hospitals.

Gifts to the center will continue to build upon its illustrious history as the first civilan burn center; establishing it as the foremost leader of comprehensive burn care for patients and their families; serving as the beacon for education, research and injury prevention.
