The Lambda Chi Chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity was colonized at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Fall of 2008. The colony grew over two years. The Founding Fathers of the Lambda Chi Chapter worked to gain our national charter. On April 17th, 2010, the Founding Fathers of Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta Classes were initiated into our fraternity. The first two years consisted of many brotherhood, community service, and philanthropy events. Of these events, the colony consistently put in the most man hours and raised the most money on campus. The colonization was marked with many intramural successes, including winning the Basketball Championship in 2010. In the summer of 2010, at the 2010 convention we picked up our charter and earned our first Chapter Excellence Award.
After chartering, the Lambda Chi Chapter would grow to the largest fraternity on campus. In the Fall of 2010, the Alpha Class brought in 25 new Brothers followed by 12 new Brothers from the Beta Class. This year would bring more athletic success with championships in volleyball, dodge ball, and indoor soccer. Community service and philanthropy included a full week of participation in Affordable Housing Awareness week with Habitat for Humanity and a donation of over $2000 to Autism Speaks.
The Chapter has continued to excel by winning awards for the 2010-2011 academic year. Awards from the Interfraternity Council at VCU included Scholarship, Recruitment, and Intake Practices. The International Fraternity awarded us with our second Chapter Excellence Award and the PIKE University 25 Man Commitment award.
The 2011-2012 school year marked many more successes for our Chapter. Fall 2011 brought Gamma Class with 25 new Brothers and Delta Class in Spring 2012 followed with 11 new men. Spring 2012 also marked our Chapter’s First Annual Fireman’s Challenge Week, in which our Chapter, along with 8 sororities on campus, raised $5,888.64 for the Evans-Haynes Burn Center at VCU Medical Center. In the Fall of 2012, the Lambda Chi Chapter welcomed 17 new Brothers into the bonds. Also, in conjunction with the Lambda Gamma Chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity, Pike at VCU raised over $11,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network at our annual Silent Auction in October.
