Epsilon Beta-Valparaiso University

History of PIKE at Valpo:

In 1920 the local fraternity of Kappa Delta Pi was founded, which lasted until 1952. In that year there were 49 active members who contributed to the winning of the Homecoming Parade at Valpo.

It wasn’t until May 9th, 1953, until the Epsilon Beta Chapter was founded. In 1954, the former Kappa Delta Pi house, which was located at 608 Lincolnway, became the first PIKE house, and is still standing today. However, the PIKE firetruck that stood in front of the house at the time is not.

In 1967 & 1968, the Valpo PIKES won songfest, took second place in the homecoming parade, took first in intramural football and soccer, had an exchange with the Northwestern Pikes and celebrated the Pike Centennial, all in one year.

In 1973, the PIKE house was moved to Mound Street where a new firetruck was acquired. Later on in the mid 1980s, the Valpo Pikes held All-Sports titles at VU, remodeled the bar and deck in the house, won songfest by singing “A Motown Medley”, held pig rosts, held Halloween and Easter parties for local school kids, and participated in the local Special Olympics program.

In 1991, the Epsilon Beta Chapter rode their firetruck in the Homecoming parade, held another pig roast, held a barn dance, a Christmas party, a beach party, and had a mudslide in the backyard, which unfortunately led to the probation of the Chapter.

The Chapter was officially suspended February 7th, 1997, and officially went silent on August 1st, 1998. At the 1998 convention, the charter was revoked for the Epsilon Beta Chapter.

17 years later, a group of gentlemen at Valparaiso University sought to bring back the excellent Epsilon Beta Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha to Valparaiso University in 2015. As of January 26th, 2015, Epsilon Beta became an active colony.

A little over two years from the re-colonization of Epsilon Beta, the men of Valpo Pike received news that their Petition to Charter was granted, and the Epsilon Beta would be re-initiated and return to chapter statues.

On Saturday, February 18 2017, Expansion Consultant Joshua Murphy and Supreme Council International VP Devang Desai came on campus to officially re-instate the Epsilon Beta Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha at Valparaiso University. The Fraternity was re-charted with 51 outstanding men.

Epsilon Beta receives official Charter!

At the annual PIKE U International convention this past July, brothers Pieroth, Mihalich and Delia were granted the official Charter from PIKE CEO Justin Buck. This was something some the Epsilon Beta brothers of past and present have been waiting for!

The men of PIKE had a goal of attaining a 3.1 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the 2017 spring semester. We are proud to announce that we were one of two fraternities on campus to achieve their written GPA goal!!

On November 12, 2017, the chapter elected Peter Funk (spring’17) as the next President of the Epsilon Beta Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha. Pete’s excitement and leadership abilities not only within the fraternity, but on campus have impressed a lot of people are we are very happy that he is our next leader!
