The comedic styling of “Saturday Night Live” was on the campus of Pittsburg State University. Pitt State Live featured campus organizations squaring off and performing short skits on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom of the Overman Student Center.

The event, featuring special guest host and local business owner, Rob Cicero, was a philanthropic outreach organized by the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity with assistance from sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma, raised $475 for local community outreach program Wesley House. The event was a big success and planning is already underway for next year to expand the event and attract more competitors as well as a larger audience to raise more funds for donation.

Numerous campus organizations acted out existing SNL skits or created a unique four to seven minute skit for the public to enjoy. The winner of the event, sorority Alpha Sigma Alpha, received bragging rights as well as a plaque to commemorate their talents through their original skit featuring Jay-Z and Beyonce bringing home baby Blu Ivy. It was a night of laughter and give aways from numerous local businesses who donated to the cause.

The Wesley House, an outreach program through the First United Methodist Church of Pittsburg, supplies the people of Pittsburg with spiritual as well as physical assistance; with in-house social work, medical clinics, food assistance, household items and dinners for the public once a week. Pi Kappa Alpha and Sigma Sigma Sigma support the mission of the Wesley House and were happy to see the students of Pittsburg State University show their support by attending and contributing to the community.
