Gamma Iota is the proud chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha at Ole Miss. Gamma Iota strives to instill the values of manhood among members while fostering growth. Such principles as honor, knowledge, courage, and service are among the ideals of Pi Kappa Alpha. Alumni such as Thad Cochran (R, MS) exemplify the success one can achieve when committed to the full development of their intellectual and personal potential. Gamma Iota has been on the University of Mississippi campus since its founding on May 27, 1927. Many great men have walked the corridors of our house here on campus, and we are always happy to welcome you all back to see what the chapter is doing.
Nowadays Gamma Iota is known for its events just as it was long ago. Firemen’s Ball and the notorious packing peanut winter wonderland have now been attempted by three other fraternities on campus. None of them as spectacular and successful as ours of course. This year’s saw 27 five foot tall bags of peanuts making a knee high snowbank on the first floor. Every girl wants to waltz through the Pike house peanuts dressed to impress, and us gents are happy to oblige. Charles Sumner and the field party it entails is another event everyone wants to attend. From the mechanical bull to the hay pit things are sure to be fun once you step off the bus at the venue.
Pike Powderpuff is our notorious philanthropy event which pits sorority teams against one another in a flag football tournament. Guys from the chapter coach the teams of gridiron gals for a couple weeks leading up to the tournament. Ad space is sold in the Powderpuff Catalog to raise money for charity. Every girl wants to participate in the event one way or another. Girls from each sorority also coach a team of cheerleaders, comprised of Gamma Iota members, for their team. Pike at Ole Miss is proud to carry on the tradition of Powderpuff while also benefiting those in need. Service to one’s community is an important aspect of a well rounded individual.
This website is only one way for alumni like yourself to communicate and participate with the chapter. We encourage all of you to come to the house when nearby and ask one of us for a tour. We’re always happy to hear stories of the good times, and maybe even share some of those more recent. Also, alumni events are a fantastic way to meet new members as well as catch up with fellow alumni. We hope to increase alumni support for Gamma Iota tenfold over the course of the next decade. You can also keep up with what the chapter is doing via social media. Lastly, feel free to email one of us with questions if you can’t find a sufficient answer. Our contacts are under the Contact Us page.
