Chapter Update

Over the past summer term, the chapter had a successful recruitment with nine freshmen accepting bids. We have plans to continue recruiting more this winter. The current chapter size is currently at 21 and we look forward to having it grow back up to 30 this coming summer. We took home our eleventh Greek Cup in a row and ranked third out of eleven on GPA with a 3.21.
The chapter looks forward to IWD coming up on February 27, 2016. This is a reminder that all alumni are encouraged to come back and help out. The projects will focus on finishing the new setup in the family room (pictured below), repairing and drywalling the roof that started to leak into the dining room, and a deep cleaning of the house as a whole.
Above: The new pool table can also be used as a ping pong table as well. The room is now also enclosed and heated. This makes for a perfect place to study in the winter.
Below: Members Steven Ma ’13 and Austin Schettenhelm ’13 sit at the bar studying for classes.

Pike of the Term: Austin Smith
Austin Smith is a 2014 initiate, junior II and the current Internal Vice-President at Zeta Alpha A. He grew up in Sterling Heights, MI, living just a few miles from fellow pledge brothers Preston Zalewski and Zachary VanMaldeghem.
He graduated valedictorian of his high school and is now pursuing degrees in mechanical engineering and engineering physics. During work term, he works in the durability department as a loads analysis engineer at FCA (formerly Chrysler). He plans to complete his thesis in this group as well, which will involve bushing characterization for vehicle suspension development. On the weekdays, you’ll find him in the upper study working hard and during the weekend you’ll find him at Foutch’s, the bar at the corner of Corunna and Linden, working just as hard.
Austin is currently looking to stay on executive council this coming year and continue to do great things for the house. After leaving Kettering, he plans to get his masters in mechanical engineering and then possibly his MBA. He intends to stay in the automotive industry and move into a managerial role during his career. Speaking on behalf of the house, we’d like to thank Austin for his hard work and continuous support of his brothers and the Fraternity.
