Mar 14, 2013 Lexington, KY DanceBlue is a student-run philanthropy at the University of Kentucky. It is a year-long fundraising effort involving thousands of UK students, which culminates in a 24-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon on UK’s campus. All of the money raised by DanceBlue goes to the Golden Matrix Fund. DanceBlue has been active for over seven years, raising more than 3 million dollars for the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Pediatric Oncology/Hematology Clinic and Markey Cancer Center.

Every year, over 120 campus organizations and 700 dancers help raise money to support all the DanceBlue families. The Omega chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha played its part this year by sending 10 active members of the chapter to participate in this philanthropic event, which charges $365 per dancing spot. This total sum of approximately $3,650 was raised by fundraisers put on by the chapter, and donation from family and friends as well as alumni of the chapter.

The 2013 dance marathon found success with the help of 700 dancers, 95 teams, and countless donors and raised $1,113,189.42 for the UK Pediatric Oncology Clinic situating the grand total of funds raised by DanceBlue at over $3.5 million since its inception in 2005. DanceBlue continues to be the fastest growing dance marathon in the country, expanding to involve more students, staff, and members of the Lexington community.

The Omega Chapter of The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity was founded at the University of Kentucky in 1901 and has initiated more than 2,000 members. In addition to the accomplishments at the University of Kentucky, The Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity has maintained the largest average chapter size of any inter/national fraternity for most of the past 20 years, and through its members has donated millions of hours and dollars to philanthropic causes and community organizations across North America.

“Pi Kappa Alpha’s mission is to develop men of integrity, intellect, and high moral character and to fostering a truly lifelong fraternal experience.”
