Hello! I am Kayla Dunagan, and I am the lucky girl who was chosen to serve the Theta Omicron chapter for the 2016-2017 school year as their Dream Girl. Being chosen to represent Pi Kappa Alpha was one of the best things to have happened to me in my life. The men I met prior to running were the reason I knew Pike was different. The men of Pike were not like every other fraternity on campus. They were men of a higher caliber and strived to achieve excellence in everything they did. I was able to identify with this motivation, and I knew that I had to be Dream Girl.
In the past year, I have been able to experience what it is like to be a Pike (without all of the ritual). I was able to see intramural championship wins, share time with men in Bible study, eat in the commons at the “Pike table,” but best of all, I was able to say, “Those are my guys!” when they won the President’s Cup for the 12th consecutive time! In my year serving Pike I was able to participate in and attend their philanthropy events, be on their team for the Hope for Brionna walk, buy them donuts, and make them cookies and treat bags. Besides the night I found out I was Dream Girl, the best day of my time serving the chapter was not a time where I did something for Pike, but a time that the men of Pike did something for me.
In the fall of 2016, I was a Rho Gamma for recruitment. This meant that I had to step away from my closest friends in Pike and AOII for the month before recruitment, and I can tell you now it was one of the hardest things I have had to do in college. However, bid day finally arrived and to my surprise not only did I get to run home to my sisters, but I got to run home to the men I saw as brothers, too! I was greeted by hand-made posters and chants, and that was just the beginning. Later that night, they were having a cookout and invited me to come. Tyler Bouslog came out of the house with a Pike jacket, then hands it to Jack Kenyon to give to me. In that moment while holding in tears, I knew I had just experienced the perfect day. This day sums up exactly what type of men are in the Theta-O chapter. They are kind, compassionate, thoughtful, over-achieving men who only want to make others happy. It has been and will be my pleasure to represent and support Pi Kappa Alpha the rest of my life because of these men who have treated me like family. This experience in my life is one that could never be replaced, and to say I am thankful for it doesn’t even begin to do it justice.
