The Lambda Mu chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha claimed many awards at ERAU’s Fraternity and Sorority Life and Student Involvement awards ceremonies on April 16th, 2013.  Included with these awards was the ERAU Chapter of the Year, given to the most outstanding Greek organization for the 2012-2013 academic year at Embry-Riddle.  A list of the awards won by Lambda Mu is here:

– ERAU Chapter of the Year
– ERAU Eagle Unity Award
– Outstanding Campus Involvement
– Outstanding Educational Programming
– Community Program of the Year
– Excellence in Recruitment
– Excellence in New Member Education
– Excellence in Risk Management
– Outstanding Advertising and Promotions
– Outstanding Philanthropist – Joseph Pavicic
– Ascending Eagle – Leon Zavos
– Outstanding Leadership Award – Brandon Marsella
– Fraternity Man of the Year – Andre Prescott
– President of the Year – Jacob Malsam

While Lambda Mu has always had a strong presence at the annual awards ceremonies, this is the first year they have been able to win Chapter of the Year since 2009.  Jacob Malsam, the president of the chapter, said, “I am extremely proud of the chapter and its members.  It is through the combined work and dedication of everyone that we are able to take home Chapter of the Year and our additional awards.  However, this is not a reason to become complacent – there is always room for improvement and Lambda Mu looks to continue our successes into next year and capture even more awards.”

The chapter won Organization of the Year in 2011, awarded to the most outstanding student organization at ERAU for that academic year.  There was no such group named as this year’s Organization of the Year as no organization met the qualifying criteria.  Pi Kappa Alpha has its sight set on this goal for 2014.

The chapter is also in the middle of preparing for its own International Fraternity awards, given out at The Academy in Memphis, Tennessee on August 1st – 4th.  Pike’s Headquarters gives out individual programming awards (such as PR, Community Service, etc.) as well as overall awards.  The highest honor a chapter can receive is the Robert Adger Smythe award, awarded to the top 10% of all Pike chapters nationwide.  Lambda Mu received this coveted award in 2008 and has been looking to replicate ever since.  The chapter’s Executive Council has been working hard at the Year End Summary (YES) and have high hopes for the outcome in Memphis!
