The Founders Day Experience – 2014

As a first year student who was newly initiated in the Fall I was not sure what to expect from the annual Pi Kappa Alpha Founders Day banquet, but it is safe to say that the night exceeded all of my expectations. I knew how important our Founders day was and it really showed through the amount of effort that was put into the event. The event was held at the Kenwood Country Club on March 8th and was attended by almost 100 active brothers, new members, and around 50 alumni. While the venue was incredible, it did not compare to the atmosphere in the room, to know that everyone there was so focused on PIKE and upheld the values of SLAG was incredible.

I personally had the opportunity to meet a handful of alumni ranging from recent brothers to initiates from the 60s and even further back. The best part of the night was getting to hear their stories and see the friendships they still carried to this day. Everyone talks about how these are your brothers for life, but once you see such a bond with your own eyes one can not truly understand it. The night helped me realize that I hope to have a similar relationship with my active brothers in 50 or 60 years. I also hope to one-day pass along my knowledge with new members and active brother much like myself when I come to be such an age.

The night was one to remember as a whole. Not only did it feed my passion for Pi Kappa Alpha, but it also brought me closer to active brothers who were not part of my pledge class. Any event that brings brothers of all ages together is important in my eyes. I would say that the Founders Day Event is the most important of them all.
