The New KA Manor is Here
The new KA Manor has received excellent reviews from our alumni, actives, parents, news media and the University. The President of West Virginia University, David Hardesty, has been most enthusiastic in his complimentary remarks about the house and the leadership that Alpha Rho has taken in upgrading the Greek system on the campus.
Our new, stately KA Manor makes a bold architectural statement on the campus of our beloved university. It is a tribute to our Kappa Alpha heritage and the values we share; “Excelsior is our motto; Excellence is our aim.” We hope that each and every brother will have a chance to visit our new Alpha Rho home at West Virginia University.
In concert with the new house is a committed Alumni Board that is working with the Active Chapter, the University and National Chapter to build upon the continuation of our traditional standards and aims. Our values have always been related to trust, duty, honor and leadership with excellence as our aim.
Having completed this new house, we can now focus on the necessary business at hand of reducing the debt. While we have a structure that is designed to last through the next century, it was not an easy task in positioning and building it on the sloping, hill at 670 North High Street.
Due to the poor soil conditions we had to go much deeper and add more concrete back fill than was ever planned. Our base is now on stone, so to speak, but with that came considerable design challenges, improved retaining walls and associated cost increases. All in all, the changes in the foundation work and retaining walls added over $600,000 to the original price estimate. Thus we need to raise these additional funds, in the next few years to pay off the added note from the bank.
In order to secure this line of credit, we had eleven, faithful alumni brothers who signed limited personal guarantees that totaled the increase of $600,000 in funding. This note will be amortized over seventy two months beginning January 13, 2007, and ending December 13, 2012, with year end principal payments of $100,000. In order to meet those obligations, we need help from all of our alumni and friends.
As a result, we continue to ask the current alumni who have already given to increase their commitment for another few years or to make a new pledge. For those that have not yet made a decision we request that you join with us in this endeavor by making a generous pledge within your means.
Please give this your heartfelt thought and let us know of your decision as soon as possible. You can make a pledge today by clicking on the “Support this Campaign” button to the right.
We have come a long way in the past few years in providing a good future for the Alpha Rho Chapter. Now let’s finish the job by reducing this debt and know that the goal has been met. Join the team, renew your commitment and help us finish this job in good order.
