Dear Incoming TU Freshman,
My name is Andrew Mangan, and I am Kappa Alpha Order’s Recruitment Chairman at The University of Tulsa for this coming semester. I would like to welcome the Class of 2021 to the University of Tulsa!
KA is a chapter that has experienced tremendous growth in the past 5 years, and we are excited to continue that trend this coming fall semester. At TU, KA is a group of like-minded men who pride themselves on high academic performance, community service, brotherhood, social adeptness, and campus involvement.
To begin, Mu chapter puts a high priority on academic performance. We received the #1 GPA Award on fraternity row for the 2015 year. Just last semester our chapter obtained a 3.321 chapter GPA. We understand that the purpose of attending college is to prepare for post-graduate life, and we support our members throughout their 4-year journey. We give out scholarships each semester to members who have excelled in their coursework or have improved significantly. We have brotherhood study hours to help those members who are falling behind in their coursework, and we have older brothers help the younger members out in classes they have already taken.
Nationally, KA’s designated philanthropic organization is the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), and Mu chapter participates in many events each year to raise money for this organization. Each year we host an all-campus dinner, at which the proceeds are donated entirely to MDA. We also host events like kickball tournaments and other competitions where the entry fees are donated. Beyond MDA, our chapter consistently participates in Relay for Life, TU Service Day, and Habitat for Humanity projects.
As a chapter, we also put a high focus on maintaining a close bond between our brothers. From weekly Sunday dinners at our house to intramural teams, our guys have formed a strong bond that will continue post-graduation. We are currently the softball intramural champions and participate in football, soccer, tennis, golf, and many others. During the football season, we love having tailgates on the lawn in front of our house before going over to the stadium to support the TU Golden Hurricane.
Our chapter also seeks to develop our members’ social skills while at TU. We plan many themed functions with sororities throughout each semester, such as pumpkin carving and roller-skating. We have an out-of-state formal banquet each year, as well as a semi-formal banquet in Tulsa, both of which are fun and memorable events that everyone looks forward to. In November, we plan a camping trip that is also one of the highlights of fall semester.
Finally, our members are very involved on campus. We have brothers majoring in every college at the university, and our members are actively participating in organizations outside of KA. From professional organizations to Orientation Leaders to University Ambassadors to religious organizations and major-specific groups, our members are active contributors to the University of Tulsa’s campus. We seek to have a strong campus presence, and our members’ involvement outside of Greek Life continues to give us a good name on campus.
We will be having numerous events throughout the summer to meet many of the incoming freshmen in both Tulsa and other areas that draw TU students. You may be receiving a call about specific events; however, if you would like any specific information about Greek Life at the University, Kappa Alpha Order, or any events, please reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org and check our chapter Facebook: Kappa Alpha Order Mu Chapter, and chapter Twitter: @KATulsa. I had a very positive experience with recruitment at TU. I encourage you to have your own rush experience and find the best fraternity for you.
