BUILDING PRIDE!
We are thrilled to announce an exciting new endeavor – Tau Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi at the University of Kansas is getting a much-needed and long-desired facelift to the current outdated 1950’s style chapter house!
The renovation project, “Building Pride,” will include façade and grounds changes to achieve a more traditional Greek revival look, along with some updates to Mom’s apartment.
Our architect, Julie Black Wellner ’78, is donating approximately $100,000 of her and her company’s (Wellner Architects, Inc.) time to create the drawings and organize project management work. Additionally, Kris Dannenberg Swords ’80 is donating her expertise as a master gardener to advise on the landscaping. Construction will begin in early April 2017 and everything will be finished by late July 2017. Meeting the completion date means the house will look spectacular for fall formal recruitment.
This project has been long in coming for the women and alumnae of Tau and we hope you are ready to help make it a reality!
There are three ways you can help make the “Building Pride” project a success:
1. Buy a Brick – We created this opportunity for sisters to become a lasting part of our “Building Pride” project and Tau history.
Each brick will be embedded in the new and attractive walkway in front of the house and they will become a visible piece of the new history of the Tau Chapter house.
Personalized bricks can be inscribed with your name and initiation year, in honor or memory of someone, or to represent an entire initiation class. An inscribed brick makes a great gift that will last for many years to come!
To become a part of Tau Chapter’s Building Pride, use the link below to purchase a brick!
There are two options for purchasing a brick:
-a 4″ x 8″ brick with up to 3 lines and 18 characters per line costs $250
-a 8″ x 8″ brick with up to 6 lines and 18 characters per line costs $500
2. Attend the Azure Blue Gala on Saturday, November 11, 2017. This event is a fundraiser hosted by Tau’s House Corporation to benefit Project “Building Pride” at the Oread in Lawrence, Kansas. The fundraiser gala will follow a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Chapter House. Alpha Delta Pi has a block of rooms reserved at the Oread, so please call today (785.843.1200) in order to receive the special event rate. The women of Tau invite you to make plans to return to Lawrence for this historic event. Special tours of recent additions to the KU campus (such as the new Capitol Federal Hall and the DeBruce Center) are also planned for this exciting day. The fundraiser gala will feature a DJ and a variety of premiere raffle items, including Kansas City Symphony tickets, and KU men’s basketball tickets. The event ticket price ($85 for an individual or $150 for a couple) includes heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. A formal invitation will follow later this summer.
3. 2017 Above and Beyond Annual Appeal – You can also assist with the “Building Pride” project by making a contribution to the 2017 Above and Beyond Annual Appeal. All contributions to this campaign will be used by the Tau Building Association to assist with the cost of the renovation.
I encourage you to consider making a gift $1,000 ($83/mo) to the 2017 Above and Beyond Annual Appeal today. If this is more than you would like to contribute, please consider $500 ($42/mo) or $250 ($21/mo). Your financial contribution to Tau chapter is a commitment to our future and values.
To make your gift, simply click “Support the Campaign” on the right side of this page. You can choose to make a one-time contribution or break your gift into monthly, quarterly or semi-annual payments. You can even set up a recurring charge to your credit card or draft from your checking account – whichever you prefer.
I hope you will join me in supporting this important “Building Pride” project. Alumnae such as yourself ensure Alpha Delta Pi continues to compete at the very highest level at the University of Kansas and nationally.
